The Sweater Shop: Wool from Scotland, Cashmere from Nepal
Every year, the Sweater Shop returns to Civil Alchemy, and every year it begins long before the first cold morning. The colorways you see this season were designed a year ago by Kelley Barr and our management team, then made by the people who knit them.
Designed Here, Knit in Scotland
Our sweater line is produced by Harley of Scotland. Kelley and our management team work together on each colorway, planning a year in advance, and the sweaters are knit in Scotland. The collection includes Fair Isle designs, crewnecks, cardigans, and more, each in its own range of colors.
Our wool sweaters are made from 100% wool, either superfine wool or lambswool, and the exact composition varies by style. Details, sizing, and care are listed with each sweater.
New This Year: Cashmere from Nepal
This year, we added a 100% cashmere line to the Sweater Shop. CA Cashmere includes beanies, scarves, crewnecks, turtlenecks, and cardigans, all hand-knit in Nepal by skilled artisans. Every piece is Azo-Free certified and meets OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and REACH standards. Because the pieces are handmade, natural variation may occur from one to the next.
The crewnecks, cardigans, and turtlenecks come in Bayleaf, Chanterelle, Charcoal, Harvest, Garnet, Juliet, Moon, Seaway, and Swaddle. Our Seaway crewneck, for example, is a soft light blue with a jersey feel. The beanies and scarves come in the same palette, with Fawn in place of Harvest.
Two Places, One Collection
Wool from Scotland and cashmere from Nepal come from different makers, but both collections begin in the same place: with Kelley and our management team deciding on colors well ahead of the season. Each piece is knit by makers who know their craft, and each colorway is ours.
