CA Wellness: Fragrance and Self Care in St. Louis
CA Wellness is the fragrance and self care collection at Civil Alchemy, and every scent in it begins with Kelley Barr. Kelley designs all of our scents in-house as an experienced perfumer, drawing on a career in fragrance that began in St. Louis more than twenty-five years ago.
A Career in Fragrance
Kelley, launched K. Hall Designs in 1998, a St. Louis collection of personal care and home fragrance goods. She had sold her products at craft stores and farmers markets for years before creating her own line, and she opened a lifestyle boutique in University City in a renovated gas station that felt like an old apothecary. The shop later moved to a larger space in Brentwood.
Over the following years, she added brands of her own, including Simpatico in 2010, inspired by her family’s cottages near Platte Lake in Northern Michigan, and Barr-Co. in 2011. She created K. Hall Studio to oversee them as the company grew. She sold the company in 2015, and in 2016 she started Civil Alchemy with her son, Ian Van Dam.
Our Namesake Scent
Alchemy is our namesake fragrance, built on tonka bean, tobacco flower, and labdanum. It is available as a perfume, candle, reed diffuser, room spray, body oil, bath soak, hand soap, bar soap, and lotion, so it can be part of your home and your daily routine in whichever form suits you.
Made in Small Batches, Close to Home
Our perfumes, diffusers, body oils, bath soaks, and most of our room sprays are produced in small batches in our shop by our staff. Alchemy room spray is the one exception. Our candles are made locally in St. Louis. Our hand and body soaps, bar soaps, and hand and body lotions are all produced in the USA.
